Pig 05049 - Christien Meindertsma

Three years project that Christien Meindertsma conducted called “Pig 05049”. The purpose of her doing this projects is to find out what happens to all the parts of the pig after it is slaughtered on a commercial farm, based in Netherlands. Christien Meindertsma was surprised to discover that she was able to documents 185 products which contributed by the animal. (Fairs, 2009)

Christien Meindertsma published her product book catalogue design "PIG 05049" which includes charts and pictures of every products that supported by the animal. The book contents are food products like bacons, pork rinds and sausages. Her book illustrates a variety of items which are made from pigs that includes pharmaceutical tablets, X-ray film, insulin, antifreeze, heart valves, paper, cigarettes and even the glue that binds the pages of the book. The main purpose of this book is to help people in a highly industrialised and 'packaged world' to understand the process of how things are made and where they come from a single pig. (Fairs, 2009)
