What I've learned is that colour tone in film plays an important role towards the show, showcase the mood and the overall setting to it. How can colour actually tell a story? Color can affect us emotionally, psychologically and even physically, often without us becoming aware. (Risk, 2019)

Not only that, there are three main components of colour which are hue (the colour itself), saturation (intensity of the colour) and value (the darkness or lightness of a colour). By using the right colour tone, it can create an emotion to the audience. As for my photonovel, I'm required to use only one colour - monochromatic colour. Therefore, I need to use an appropriate and correct colour tone to reflect my photonovel story. (Risk, 2019)

What does film colour really communicate? For hue - The mood of a scene by only tweaking the colours present on the screen. That's where the hue comes in to play. The filmmaking techniques behind creating a fantasy world, dystopia and even how to accentuate the real world to attract the audience eye. (Risk, 2019)

Saturation - The hues on the screen is to match the tone and mood of the story. The film colour theory can be use to manipulate the saturation of a scene or entire film, to fit any story. (Risk, 2019)

Brightness - Often people having trouble in communicating the film because the images on the screen is too bright / too grim. Colour psychology plays an important role in the filmmaking techniques. (Risk, 2019)

Another important aspects I've learned is that tone brings a great emotion when it portrays the story, different tone have different atmosphere and mood to it. This theory and concept can be applied to my photonovel story. The first step is to plan out the tonal range: is the story going to be dark/bright? Are there any scenes that I want to focus on to draw attention to? Next is integrate in storyboard to helps me to convey the emotions in each scene. Therefore, colour tone plays an important role in conveying the emotion and the overall message. (Film Tone — Filmmaking Techniques for Directors: Ep1, 2018)

Lighting in the scene is really important because it highlight the main subject and focus to it . Different contrast brings the highlight out and the mood of the story. (Film Tone — Filmmaking Techniques for Directors: Ep1, 2018) This can be one of my method when shooting my photonovel story. By using the correct composition and angle, it will bring the highlight of it.

Next is exposure. The image in the scene is under exposure. Exposure also plays an important part in the story because it uses tools of exposure to manipulate brightness. Usually this scene is often seen as dramatic and suspicious looking. (Film Tone — Filmmaking Techniques for Directors: Ep1, 2018)

Art direction is to control the brightness felling, by using props, set dressing and various wardrobe. In addition, it also controls the felling of the scenes by using brightness to it. (Film Tone — Filmmaking Techniques for Directors: Ep1, 2018)
