Week 1, we're assigned to do a reflection regarding the talk on "How To Find YOUR Life Purpose and Career (Ikigai)" by Chris Do.

The word "Ikigai" is a Japanese concept that (thing that you live for) the reason for being. The venn diagram breaks down into 4 elements which are what do you ❤️ LOVE, what are you 👍 GOOD AT, 💸 WHAT JOB DO YOU THINK PAYS BILLS and 🌍 WHAT DO YOU THINK THE WORLD NEEDS. With this concept, it trying to balance all the element together.

The Venn diagram above shows my direction and pathway that I would pay attention to

What I Love

- I like capturing images of scenery, editing images, trying out various illustration methods and styles and exploring art exhibition / art competition (things that I see and try which boost my creativity). Apart from that, I really love trying out new design techniques along my career. Thus, this actually motivates me to go beyond my boundary just like my imagination when designing.

What I’m Good At

- My skills and talents are still in the progress of ‘learning to learning to learning’. Besides that, I’m not entirely good at time management however, I do have the curtesy to always organize my task / work daily to prevent messy and unorganised lifestyle. Other than that, brainstorming is also one of my favourite part as it always branches out more idea when developing it.

What I can be Paid for

- Every job comes with a salary / price except for ngo / voluntary work. However, 'the job' depends on which category can it sustain our daily career. For instance, doing freelance, full time / part time designer and others more. Personally, I feel that multitasking in jobs is a great choice but it depends on how to manage it.

What the World Needs

- There are always many obstacles and challenges in life. Always come out with an alternative ways and method, preparation is always the choice.

Reflection:

I personally feel that this is a great exercise and platform to explore using the 4 elements. However, there're certain part that I'm unsure of and I hope as I discover more along my year 3, I'm able to know where I'm standing - able to determine my future and pathway.

When you think about "What you can be paid for" research upon what is trending in the industry nowadays. Not so much as "freelance, fulltime or parttime" but more of "people will pay me to organize their files"/ "people will pay me to build a website"/ etc.

While looking at the things you love, I think it's important to also have interests outside of "art & design", for example, cooking/ travelling/ etc. These will be your escape pods when passion becomes a job. They can also be launchpads for a side project where you can apply your skills.

Ultimately, this is just a guide to help you make connections and lay out your options.
